Lacy Naming, Color Variety, Color & Pattern

  • by

The NLDR is maintaining these data points in each dog’s registry profile.

Blue Lacy Breed Naming

“Lacy” is the common name that is frequently used in reference to the breed in general. “Blue Lacy” is the naming convention used in two Texas state laws, establishing the Blue Lacy as a “True Texas Breed” and designating it as the official State Dog of Texas. The NLDR adheres to this naming convention for the overall breed name, as it has been stated in multiple laws that establish the name Blue Lacy in the public domain to be used by all in reference to this breed.

NLDR Color Varieties – Required & Assigned

Within each dog’s record, the NLDR will maintain a Color Variety datapoint as well as a Color. The Color Varieties are listed below. One of these three categories will appear in each pedigree and be stored in each dog’s NLDR data record.

  • Red Lacy
  • Tricolor Lacy
  • Blue Lacy

NLDR Color – Required & Assigned or Derived from Photos

Color will be equal to the Color Variety in most cases, today. However, the NLDR has added some more descriptive Color options to our database, and we are prepared to add additional options that will better describe each dog’s color. Color can contain terms like Silver, Dark Blue, Medium Blue, Lilac, Blue Grizzly, etc. We are looking for the shortest, most descriptive color terms.

NLDR Color Pattern – Optional

The NLDR also has a Color Pattern datapoint on each dog’s pedigree. This field is not used very much today, although it is available for use. Here we can describe the distribution of colors like white, red, and blue. For example, we can put things like white chest patches, toes, and feet, or things like saddleback patterns or whatever best describes the dog’s color pattern.
